Meta ships Muse Spark 1.1
Meta claimed the update beat Google's latest Gemini on coding and reasoning benchmarks but did not compare it to Anthropic's or OpenAI's newest flagship models, which it still trailed.

Meta Superintelligence Labs released Muse Spark 1.1, an update to the Muse Spark model it launched in April 2026, in public preview with API access for developers. Meta said the update surpassed prior products from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google, and beat Google’s latest Gemini release on coding and reasoning benchmarks — comparisons that, per Fortune’s reporting, excluded the most recent flagship models from OpenAI and Anthropic, against which Muse Spark 1.1 still lagged on at least one coding metric behind Anthropic’s Mythos 5 and Fable 5 and OpenAI’s newly released GPT-5.6.
The release came under Meta’s chief AI officer Alexandr Wang, who has led Meta Superintelligence Labs since the reorganisation that followed Meta’s 2025 investment in Scale AI, and continued the unit’s practice of frequent, incremental model updates priced aggressively against competitors.
