OpenAI launches ChatGPT Work agent alongside GPT-5.6

OpenAI launched ChatGPT Work, an agent powered by its newly released GPT-5.6 that gathers context from a user’s connected apps, files and workflows, works through a task for an extended stretch without supervision, and returns finished output — documents, spreadsheets, presentations, reports and websites — with a new hosted-websites feature letting users build and share sites directly through the product. The rollout began with Pro, Enterprise and Edu accounts on 9 July, with Plus and Business users following over subsequent days; ChatGPT Work carried no separate price of its own, instead consuming usage allowance under whichever ChatGPT plan a customer already held.
The launch put OpenAI’s workplace ambitions directly against Anthropic’s and Microsoft’s own agentic office tools, and arrived as OpenAI was reported to be preparing for an eventual IPO. It shipped alongside the wider public release of GPT-5.6, which reached general availability across ChatGPT, Codex and the API the same day, ending the limited preview that had run since late June.
