Anthropic partners with UK government to build a GOV.UK assistant
The Claude-powered assistant, agreed with the UK's Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, will initially help job seekers navigate GOV.UK support and training.

Anthropic said it had been selected by the UK’s Department for Science, Innovation and Technology to help build and pilot a Claude-powered AI assistant for GOV.UK, the government’s public-services website. The initial version will focus on job seekers, helping people find work, access training and understand what support and resources are available to them, with the assistant able to retain context across multiple conversations.
The partnership was described as the first publicly announced outcome of a memorandum of understanding Anthropic and the UK government had signed in February 2025 to explore how AI could be applied to public services. Anthropic said users would keep control over their own data, including the ability to opt out, and that its engineers would work alongside Government Digital Service staff so the tool could eventually be maintained independently by government teams rather than remaining dependent on the vendor.
The deal was one of several agreements frontier AI companies struck with national governments in this period to build assistants for public-facing services, part of a broader push by AI labs to move beyond consumer chat products into infrastructure embedded directly in state institutions.
