Suno is an AI music company, founded in Cambridge, Massachusetts by four former engineers from the fintech firm Kensho, whose app turns a short text prompt into a complete song — vocals, lyrics and instrumentation — in about a minute. Since its public launch in late 2023 it has been, alongside Udio, one of the two reference platforms for AI-generated music, and a central figure in the industry's fight over training data. The major record labels sued it for copyright infringement in 2024; Suno did not deny training on copyrighted recordings but argued the use was transformative fair use, comparable to a person learning by listening widely. In November 2025 it settled with Warner Music and signed a licensing deal, agreeing to retire its unlicensed models during 2026 in favour of ones trained on authorised catalogues — though Sony's claims remained unresolved and some artists' groups criticised the terms.
