Skild AI

A general-purpose "robot brain" foundation model designed to run across many different robot bodies.

Reference profile

Skild AI is a Pittsburgh startup building what it calls a general-purpose "brain" for robots — a single foundation model, the Skild Brain, that the company says can run across many different robot bodies without hardware-specific retraining. It was founded in 2023 by the former Carnegie Mellon roboticists Deepak Pathak and Abhinav Gupta, and pitches its technology for uses spanning security patrol, inspection, delivery, warehousing and manufacturing. In January 2026 it said it had raised $1.4bn in a round led by SoftBank at a valuation above $14bn, more than tripling its valuation from seven months earlier — a figure that reflects investor appetite for robot foundation models more than a settled commercial record.
