Partnership on AI
A multi-stakeholder non-profit consortium of companies, academics and civil-society groups developing best practices and shared guidance for responsible AI.
Partnership on AI (PAI) is a non-profit consortium, founded in 2016 by Amazon, Google, DeepMind, Microsoft, Facebook and IBM — with Apple joining shortly after — to develop best practices and public dialogue on the responsible use of artificial intelligence. It has since grown to bring together more than 100 member organisations spanning technology companies, academic groups and civil-society bodies, and publishes guidance on issues such as synthetic media, algorithmic fairness and the use of AI in the workplace. As a multi-stakeholder forum it produces frameworks and convenes discussion rather than binding rules; supporters see it as a rare neutral table, while critics question how much a body funded partly by the largest AI firms can constrain them.
