The Center for a New American Security (CNAS) is a Washington-based, bipartisan national-security think tank founded in 2007 by Michèle Flournoy and Kurt Campbell. Alongside its broader work on defence and foreign policy, it runs a substantial technology-and-national-security programme that examines military applications of artificial intelligence, autonomous weapons, escalation risk and export controls, and its analysts frequently advise the US government and testify before Congress. Its output is reports, war-games and analysis rather than products; its influence rests on the movement of its staff into and out of senior government roles and on how policymakers use its research.
