OpenAI releases GPT-4o updated image and text generation with 12 Days of OpenAI livestreams

OpenAI opened “12 Days of OpenAI,” a run of daily livestreamed announcements, with the full release of o1 — previously available only as a preview — and a new subscription tier, ChatGPT Pro, priced at $200 a month.
o1 moved out of preview with support for image analysis and, OpenAI said, more concise reasoning that produced faster answers without giving up accuracy on coding and mathematics tasks. ChatGPT Pro bundled unlimited access to o1, o1-mini, GPT-4o and Advanced Voice Mode with a new “o1 pro mode” that used more inference-time compute per query; OpenAI cited internal testing showing a substantial cut in coding errors for o1-pro over the standard model, without disclosing the underlying numbers publicly on the announcement page itself.
The $200 price, ten times the existing Plus tier, was unusual for a consumer AI subscription and drew comment as a signal that OpenAI saw a market willing to pay a premium for its most capable reasoning model rather than treating access as a mass-market commodity. The livestream format — a new capability or product revealed on each of twelve consecutive weekdays — continued through December and closed with the announcement of o3 and the deliberative alignment technique used to train it.
