Google folded Duet AI, its generative-AI add-on for Workspace introduced in 2023, into the Gemini brand, announcing two new subscription tiers: Gemini Business at $20 per user per month, aimed at organisations of any size, and Gemini Enterprise at $30, aimed at larger customers with heavier usage. Both tiers carried over Duet AI’s existing features — drafting assistance in Gmail and Docs, image generation in Slides, project planning in Sheets, and meeting enhancements in Meet including studio-quality video effects and translated captions — under enterprise-grade data-handling terms, with Gemini Enterprise offering broader access and higher usage limits than Business.
The change was one part of a wider rebranding effort that had begun the same month with the retirement of the Bard name for Google’s consumer chatbot in favour of Gemini, and the introduction of a paid Gemini Advanced tier built on the company’s largest model, Gemini Ultra. Folding the separately named Duet AI into the same brand consolidated Google’s generative-AI products, which had previously used different names for consumer, developer and enterprise contexts, under a single identity tied to the underlying model family.
The rebrand carried no new underlying model capability at the point of announcement — it was a packaging and naming change to existing Workspace AI features, priced and positioned to compete more directly with Microsoft’s Copilot for Microsoft 365, which had launched enterprise pricing several months earlier. Google continued to iterate on Workspace’s AI features under the Gemini name through the rest of 2024 and into 2025, eventually making baseline generative features standard across most paid Workspace plans rather than a separate add-on.
